Software of bridge
Following the example others Plays of reflection, the Bridge gave place to the development of many software of bridge . Internet gave a second breath to the computerization of the play. The programs of bridge however (December 2006) did not reach yet the level of excellence of the programs of failures. This relative delay is explained initially by the less large interest for the bridge, (it is as true for the Jeu of go) as the failures.
Functions
The programs of bridge fulfill several functions and can be classified in 2 families:- supervisory : the software is satisfied to post the hands, to control the correction of the play and to enter it the scores. This type of products is primarily on Internet and allows human players of bridger on line, between them.
- the players : These programs make it possible to only play and are classified in 3 categories:
tests - software of Standard II : they are players of give selected, for their strategic interest or teaching. The play is " muet" , without correction nor animation.
- software of Standard III : they are players/professors of give selected. The play interactive and is commented on by a professor who leads the player gradually to find itself the solution.
Championships
International championships confronting the best software are regularly organized.
The tenth World Computer Bridge Championship (latest to date) took place in June 2006 with Vérone.
See the external bond above (in English) for information more detailed on the form of the championship, the applicants, the history of the competition, etc

Bridge and artificial intelligence
The recurring question of the programming of the plays is to choose between a “quantitative” approach or a “qualitative” approach. The two concurrent approaches have each one their followers. But the majority of the current programs of bridge seem to function in mode “forces rough”.
Quantitative approach
In the quantitative approach, one privileges the phenomenal capacity of calculation (speed, memory) of the Ordinateurs to solve the problems arising.
Qualitative approach
In this approach, one privileges the Artificial intelligence, in other words, one tries to simulate on the computer the reflection of a human player.- Sabrina: a free software developed according to this principle in is an interesting attempt.
