Soft night, holy night

Soft night, holy night (in German Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht ) is a Christmas carol. He was sung for the first time the December 24th 1818 in the Saint Nicolas's Day Church of Oberndorf, in Austria.

This song was written in 1816 by Joseph Mohr then priest of the the Austrian Alps, the music composed by the Organiste Franz Xaver Gruber in 1818.

The reasons of the composition of the song are not certain. An assumption is that the growing old organ of the church was not any more in state and that Mohr and Gruber then created a song intended to be accompanied with the Guitare.

There exists more than one hundred of translations of Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht . In addition to the French version, one can quote the Silent Night, Holy Night English.
