Soft base

a soft base is a base bulky and not very charged containing not very electronegative atoms and very polarizable. The opposite of a soft base is a bases hard . The criterion of hardness of a base is used in the principle HSAB (Hardware years Soft Acid and Base). The criterion of hardness is also used for the acids. There exist hard acid and soft acid . This principle determines affinity between acids and bases according to their hardness.
