Geography

  • Soft-the-Jolly is located in the Sarthe, to 40 km in the North-West of the Mans, with the borders of the the mancelles Alps, in the regional natural park Normandy-Maine.

The borough, built in amphitheater on a hill, with the bottom of which the river of Orthe runs, presents a very picturesque aspect.

History

Soft-the-Jolly was on the road of the pilgrims who went to the Mount-Saint-Michel or with Saint-Jacques-with-Compostelle. As these ferrugineous sandstone crosses testify some cénomanien which marked out their course.

An agricultural domain is established there as from the 5th century.

Until the Revolution of 1789, the commune was made up great seigneuriaux fields.

The stronghold of Moré is perhaps oldest (13th century). The castle was built on a hill dominating the the Sarthe.
