Socorro (New Mexico)

Socorro is the chief town of the Comté of Socorro in the state of the New Mexico, with the the United States. It is in the valley of the Rio Grande at an altitude of 1396 Mr. His population in 2000 was of 8.807 inhabitants.

Socorro was founded in 1598 by Spanish Juan de Oñate. A first catholic mission was founded about 1625, the city then consisting of approximately 600 people.
