Socket AM2

The Socket AM2 (in the past Socket m2 ) is a socket intended for the Processeur S of office AMD, which they are very top-of-the-range, general public, or of line entry. It left at the end of May 2006, like successor for the Socket 939. It presents 940 pins and includes the support of RAM DDR2 but it is not therefore compatible with the processors Socket 940.

The socket is intended for the following processors: Windsor (top-of-the-range: Athlons 64 X2 Dual-Core), Orleans (midrange: Mono-Core Athlon 64) and Shackled (line entry: Sempron).

Compatible processors

The use of these processors is possible thanks to the chipsets NVidia NForce5 and ATI SB600.
  • AMD Sempron : from the 3000+ to the 3600+
  • AMD Athlon 64: from the 3000+ to the 3800+
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2: from the 3600+ to the 6000+
  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 EE: from the 3800+ to the 4800+
  • AMD Athlon 64 FX-62
