Socket 940

The Socket 940 is a socket of 940 pins for the processors of waiter AMD 64-bit. The socket is almost entirely covered with wire, without hole in the medium. There are four spots on the socket which do not have wire, and are used to align the processor correctly. The AMD Opteron S and the oldest AMD Athlon 64 FX (FX-51) use Socket 940. Being a platform planned for the waiters, the processors using this socket accept only the memory registered , correcting the errors, because with the waiters and the work stations, even the possible hazard of an error of memory all the million writing/reading is unacceptable. The mother charts dual Socket 940 also exist, allowing the use of two Opterons of series 200. One finds also mother charts with four or eight sockets 940. The platform Socket 940 is intended for a professional use.
