Sociology of work

The definition for the sociology of the work of Georges Friedmann: “the study, under their various aspects, of all the communities which constitute at the time of work” somewhat evolved/moved since one is interested in the human labors. The sociologists “founders” such Karl Marx which theorized, since 1871, how the Capital subjects the work through Rapports of production, or Emile Durkheim which deepened into 1893 the concepts of Division of the labor, or Pierre Naville for his studies of the Automation and the modern forms of the Industrial society, succeeded in the years a 1960-70 multitude of empirical studies within the factories and the administrations. It is true that financings were open.

Research on the ground has, in fact, begun in a relatively systematic way in years 1920-30 in the United States since the productivity could be improved per hour of the Scientific management (cf Frederick Winslow Taylor) and of the development of managerial strategies in the companies.

Thus, the sociology of work consists in questioning the reports/ratios which the men and the women in medium of work weave. These reports/ratios are multiple, they relate to at the same time the time of work and time except work, the " dedans" and the " dehors" Undertaken, Workshop, work place.

The " dedans" spreads itself around the environment of work, of subjectivitys to work (pleasures and sufferings; tensions and harmony…), of the modes of governorship, of the styles of Management or the types of command, etc Concerned are the conflicts, the modes of resistances, the ways effective to organize work in workshop often in the abstract and operational way, the practices of work, dexterities, the sometimes ambiguous report/ratio of human at its work station, the modes of trainings and qualification, the qualification of the worker and the qualification of the work station…

The " dehors" to the incidences work refers on the family life, the Loisir S or the social identities conceived like coextensives of the professional identities (cf Claude Dubar). This last dimension questions also the reports/ratios of the work environment with its local environment, i.e. the city, expensive with the Greek philosophers.
