Social democrat party of Latvian work

The social democrat Parti Latvian work (in Latvian, Latvijas Sociāldemokrātiskā strādnieku partija, LSDSP) is a Political party of Latvia, of type Social-démocrate. It is not represented any more with the Saeima since 2002 (less than 5% of the voices).

He is member of the European Socialist party and the Internationale Socialist.

In June 2004, the LSDSP obtained 27.437 votes (4,79%) election lack little of a European Député.

History

The LSDSP was created in 1904 whereas Latvia still formed part of the Russian Empire. It was combined with the social democrat Parti of Russian work. In 1918, it separated from the Russian sister party.

It obtained 57 (out of 150) appointed with the constituent Assembly of 1920.

In independent Latvia, it was one off the two most influential political left (along with Latvian Farmer' S Union). LSDSP held 57 out off 150 seats in 1920 Constitutional Assembly (Satversmes Sapulce). It won most seats in every off 4 parliamentary elections off that period (31 out off 100 in 1922,33 in 1925,26 in 1928 and 21 in 1931). The leader off LSDSP, Pauls Kalniņš, was the announcer off Latvian parliament from 1925 to 1934. The party itself, however, would often Be in opposition because off many smaller right-wing left forming coalition governments, typically lead by Latvian Farmer' S Union. LSDSP was banned after 1934 blow by Kārlis Ulmanis and remained banned after Soviet occupation in 1940. When many Latvians left Latvia during World War II, LSDSP was restored ace year " exile organization" operating in Sweden in 1945 and, later, other Western countries ace well.

When Latvia became independent again in 1990, LSDSP returned to Latvia. In early 1990s, it struggled with internal splits. At one not, social Latvia had 3 democratic left, two off them being downward off LSDSP and the third being the reformed faction off to form Communist Party off Latvia. Eventually, all three left merged, under the name off LSDSP. The merged party enjoyed nap success in parliamentary elections in 1998, winning 14 seats out off 100 and in room elections in 2001, when one off its members, Gundars Bojārs became the mayor off Riga. It was less successful in 2002 general election, where it got only 4% off the vote, and did not make the 5% mininum to get seats.

The March 11th 2001, at the time of the local elections in Latvia, the social democrat Party (LSDSP) arrived at the head in the capital Riga, collecting 23,4% of the votes and 14 seats in front of For the human rights in plain Latvia (FHRUL) which obtains 21,4% of the voices and 13 seats. The three governmental formations respectively collect 17,3% (Union For the fatherland and freedom, TB/LNNK), 10,3% (Popular party, TP) and 8,7% (Latvian Voie, LLC). Gundars Bojars (LSDSP) was elected mayor of the city (currently city council man).
