Social democrat party (Japan)

The social democrat Parti ( Shakai Minshutō , 社会民主党) is a Political party Japan of orientation of center-left. Its foundation, by a minority resulting from the Japanese Socialist party, date of the year 1991.

He is member of the Internationale Socialist.

The social democrat Party gained 6 seats with the general elections of the November 9th 2003, that is to say 12 seats of less than with the preceding elections. It is one of the three opposition parties represented with the Diet.

Takako DOI (土井たか子) directed the party between 1986 and 2003, and resigned after the elections of November 2003. The current leader is Mizuho Fukushima (福島瑞穂).
