Prisa is a Spanish press group with dimensions with Madrid Stock Exchange. The name is the initials of " Promotora de Informaciones Sociedad Anónima" in Castilian is Promotion of information Public limit company.
The company was born with the newspaper El Pais (first newspaper of Spain) in 1976.
Today, Prisa is present in all the Spanish types of media. With share El Pais , the group has indeed the newspapers ACE (second sporting daily newspaper), Cinco Días (second economic daily newspaper), the television channel Localia, the radios Cadena SER and Principal Los 40 the editor of school book Santillana. It has moreover 44% of the company Sogecable, owner of the Cuatro television channel and the Digital+ range of satellite channels, as well as editors of titer.
The company was gradually internationalized in South America, with the the United States, the Portugal and in France where it is shareholder with 15% of the group Le Monde (French newspaper).
Death
The July 21st 2007, its founder and President Jesús de Polanco dies brutally of the continuations of a long illness. Three days later, the board of directors of SNUFFED names his son, Ignacio Polanco, with the presidency of the group, of which he was vice-president since 2006.
