Sniper (group)

Sniper is a group of French Rap originating in the Val-d'Oise. It is composed of El Tunisiano (Bachir Baccour), Blacko (Karl Appela), Aketo (Riyadh Selmi). The rappeurs Aketo and El Tunisiano are accompanied by the style Ragga/Reggae by Blacko, in the past Black Renega.

Biography

The genesis of Sniper goes back to edition 1997 of the Francofolies of La Rochelle. It is there that DJ Boudj and the three rappeurs Aketo, El Tunisiano and Blacko, meets and decides to form a group, that they will call first of all suspect Personnalité . They shorten then this name in persni for finally leading to Sniper .

  • El Tunisiano, originating in Mourning-the-Bars (95) and founder of the Sniper group, just at 16 years Mr. Group which it leaves in 1997 to join the collective Comité of Mourning , in which it meets Blacko.

  • Aketo is also originating in Mourning-the-Bars and had integrated into the 13 years age the Comité of Mourning . Mr. Group offers his first appearance discographic to him on the mini album You said what? .
  • Blacko was born with Montfermeil and has a past already charged in the medium with the rap; KDM, Kaotik, Committee of Mourning, Suspect Personality, where it develops its facilities for the reggae hip-hop.

The three members form a complementary group: Aketo and El Tunisiano develops rather a style rap, Blacko privileges an approach closer to the reggae, while DJ Boudj deals with the scratchs.

They began by making some appearances on various Mixtape S and compilations such as The Power off Unity then First class and B.O.S.S . (Exercise of style).

Albums

First album: Of the laughter to the tears

However, their career begins really in January 2001, with the exit of their first album, Of the laughter to the tears , under the label Desh Music.

The title of this opus summarizes rather well the philosophy of the formation: a mixture of humor (cf a verbal tournament between Aketo and Tunisiano) and of more serious texts (Taken for target), run in varied but always energetic tempos.

Their topics of predilection are found in the life of the every day: racism, the exits, the girls,… They do not forsake the claiming rap but avoid pouring systematically in the stereotype which contribute to make rap a music of ghetto.

Second album: Engraved in the rock

In spring 2003, the group repeats with a riper album, " Engraved in the roche". This opus covers many subjects like the israélo-Palestinian Conflit with Jeteur of stones , the warming of planet on chaotic Visions or the idleness of certain young people in Trop quickly .

The lighter titles are not in particular forgotten Processus 2003 and Recette house .

Useless to quote individual the most known like Without (Re) fathers and Engraved in the rock .

Third album: Milks for feature

The May 22nd 2006, Sniper returns on the scene of the Rap French and their album places n°1 of the sales, in the space of a few weeks hardly after its exit.

However, the group changed. Indeed DJ Boudj, which took seat with platinums since the 1st album " Laughter with the larmes" Sniper left. The reasons were not detailed but it would be about " quarrels, arguments, as in any famille" explain one of the members always active, group.

At this time there, the group marked a clear evolution reaching a certain maturity whose premises were already perceptible in their second album " Engraved in the roche". Moreover, and in spite of legal proceedings, their texts are shown extremely committed. Their fans qualify their songs of " réalistes" and the Sniper protest the Tolérance with the detriment of the Violence , although some their texts are precisely décriés for their violence, and discussed.

Assessment

In three albums, the Sniper convinced certain fans of Rap, in France, by being interested on many subjects, quite as different the ones as the others, such as the Religion, the conflicts international like Iraq - E. - U., Palestine - Israel, or the Love, the Respect , the Resentment, various injustices & Inequalities, the Immigration, difficult life in the Suburbs, truth/false dream of the Occident, the Racism, etc

The group is subject to heteroclite influences: rap with old, in particular under the influence of Aketo, of the texts in Arab, sung by El Tunisiano, but also by the key of Reggae which Blacko brings.

The group would consider a last round , after this last album, since the three artists separate and move towards a career solo. However the 3 artists announced then confirmed that one 4th album would leave their solos once respective finished.

Legal proceedings

This group had several contentions with the Justice, in particular for the words of songs such as France but also a song on the conflict of the the Middle East Jeteur of stones . The group was released by the court of Rouen for the title " France" but was also shown of anti-semitism through their second album treating of the israélo-Palestinian Conflit causing the anger of the pro-Jewish organizations in particular. The Minister of Interior Department of the time, Nicolas Sarkozy, qualified them " hooligans who dishonor France".

Extract of the Le Monde newspaper: courts insisting on dimension symbolic system of the rap which, as in December 2005 the Court of Appeal of Rouen with regard to Sniper meant it, " remain before only one mode of expression used by the author to express the desolation and the evil of living young people of banlieues".

They are explained in a song of their last album France (route of a polemic) to which the refrain is close to that which was worth continuations to them:

" France is a joke and one was made betray You know, they tried to dirty us Oui me I spoke about bitchy girl… in particular of France, It prohibit to me to say it opposite… but worry you, I think it Shown to incite to take the weapons but this text was only one alarm signal… Dear Sirs, Include/understand the direction of our speech not to confuse a call to the murder… and a call to the help!!!

However of other rappeurs at the same time had texts even more provocative and which called with the revolt (see Lim). The main reason of these continuations undoubtedly remain that the group had a greater influence than the others smaller rappeurs however more violent one.
