Snares
Snares (also called Tini Heke and semi-officially islands Snares ) are a small archipelago located at 200 kilometers in the South of the island of the South of the New Zealand. Snares consist of a principal island (island of the North-East) and the island Broughton, smaller, but also the Chain of the West. The archipelago is located at, and has a surface of 3,5 km ² approximately.
Snares were announced for the first time by the captain George Vancouver and named “ The Snares ” because Vancouver regarded them as a danger to navigation. The islands were already known by the Maori S, which called largest Te Taniwha (“the marine monster”).
With the difference in the others islands the sub-Antarctic S which were largely affected by the industry of the Chasse for the whale and the Chasse for the seals with, Snares is one of the last preserved areas of New Zealand.
