Snap ring
See also: Ring
The snap rings are components of mechanical Assemblage generally assembled in throat S carried out on external cylindrical ranges (trees, axes,…) or in Alésage S. They make it possible to carry out axial stops, play take-ups intended to reduce the noise of operation of the mechanisms, etc the applications are very numerous in general mechanics and in very many industrial sectors: car, electric household appliances, machines of office, etc
The rings external threaded in the direction of the axis are recognized generally, but not always, with their narrow opening. Those which are set up radially have on the contrary a very large opening.
The interior rings are always assembled axially, they have practically a whole an important opening which corresponds to the need for decreasing their diameter during the assembly.
General information
The resistance of the connection by snap ring depends on the type of ring used but also on the type of assembly and the material in which one carried out the throat. Often, the latter is much less résitante that the ring itself and it is it which yields, involving the ejection of the ring and the destruction of the connection. the throats weaken the trees always considerably, on the one hand, because of the reduction in its section, on the other hand, because of the Notch effect.
In the case of the high speeds of rotation , the balancing becomes not easily controllable, it is necessary moreover to be wary of the external rings which tend to open and to leave their throat.
To distinguish, on a drawing, an open ring of a closed ring, one agrees on always to cut the ring by a plan passing by the opening .
