Snæfellsnes
The large peninsula Snæfellsnes is located at the west of the Borgarfjörður in Iceland.
It is called the Iceland in miniature because many typical natural sites of Iceland can be visited there.
Especially the Volcano Snæfellsjökull, one of the symbols of Iceland, is in the extreme west of the peninsula and dominates its surroundings, being more the high mountain of Snæfellsnes (1446 m). A Glacier (= isl. jökull ) covers its top with only two small volcanic chimneys which surmount it. When the weather is nice, one can see Snæfellsjökull capital Reykjavík on a distance of approximately 120 km. The mountain is also so famous because of the novel Voyage in the center of the Earth of Jules Verne in which one finds the entry in the interior of the ground on the top of this mountain. The volcano is surrounded of the Natural park of Snæfellsjökull (become officially national park in 2001).
People who believe in the esotericism think that the volcano is the center of special powers.
Some pretty cities and villages where one saw especially fishing find at the coast of the north of Snæfellsnes: Ólafsvík, Grundarfjörður, Stykkishólmur and Búðardalur. Like in the south of the peninsula: Arnarstapi.
