Smyrneïko tragoudi
The smyrneïko tragoudi (Σμυρναίικο τραγούδι), literally the song of Smyrna , is a musical style originating in Smyrna, current the Izmir. It is born in the Greek community from the city during the 19th century and ends up reaching the Greece, after the Grande Catastrophe of minor Asia in 1922. The influences of the smyrneïko tragoudi are multiple. This musical style is, indeed, the reflection of the communities which populate the city, Greeks, Turks, Juifs, Armenians. The smyrneïko tragoudi is an Eastern musical style, he obeys the system of the Eastern makams or their equivalents in the Byzantine music the echoes (ήχους). The Rebetiko, style popular in Greece in the years 1930, finds its roots in the smyrneïko tragoudi . The passage from one musical style to another is admirably described in the film Rebétiko of Costas Ferris, which evokes the history of a family of musicians originating in Smyrna.
