Smooth endoplasmic reticulum
See also: REL
The endoplasmic Réticulum smoothes ( REL ) is a Organite (a cellular under-compartmentation ) delimited by a membrane. It is said smooth to distinguish it from the granulous RE whose membrane owes its granulous aspect with the presence of many ribosomes. The membrane of the REL does not have ribosome.
The REL is implied in the synthesis of Lipide and Stéroïde, in particular the sex hormones. He plays also a big role in the metabolism of the Glucide S, in the detoxification of the cells and the storage of calcium. The REL storing calcium is also called Calciosome.
The REL is particularly developed in the hépatocytes where most of the metabolism of sugar takes place, in particular of its storage in the form of Glycogène.
