Smells Like Teen Spirit

Smells Like Teen Spirit is the first song of the album Nevermind of Nirvana, left in 1991.

Success

Written by Kurt Cobain, it was the first large success of the group. Its front of guitar inspired by traditional the " Louie Louie" the song will propel to the first position of the classifications in several countries.

The title would have its origin in a Graffiti drawn by a friend of Kurt Cobain, Kathleen Hanna of the group Bikini Kill on the wall of a bar of Seattle, it had written: Kurt smells like Teen Spirit (“Kurt feels like Teen Spirit”), Teen Spirit being a mark of cheap deodorant. It also appears that Cobain would have stopped playing this song on scene since it would have learned that Teen Spirit was a deodorant.

She is regarded as the anthem of the “Génération X”.

Classified ninth among 500 greater songs of all times according to the magazine Rolling Stone in 2003.

Video clip

A video clip for this song was carried out under the direction of Samuel Bayer having also produced clips for Green Day, Metallica or Offspring inter alia.

The video is based on the concept of a college which finishes in the Anarchie and the riot. Inspired of the films Violences on the city of Jonathan Kaplan and of the School of the dunces , the film with the Clean.

This video clip associated with the song was also a great success and accepted several prices with the MTV Music Awards of 1992.
