Small vrillette

The Petite Vrillette ( Anobiida punctatum ) is a species of Coléoptère living close to the man. It is rare in nature, from where its other name of Vrillette domesticates .

Characteristics

Anatomy of the adult

From 2,5 to 6 mm length, brown dark with black, covered head, élytres carrying lines of points.

Anatomy of the Larva

From 4 to 6 mm of length, pace of white, white worm yellowish, thoracic part equipped with three pairs of quite discernible legs. Take-off: from April at August. Duration of the development of the larva: from 8 to 36 months, even up to ten years if the conditions are not favorable.

Consumed gasolines

Sapwood of the coniferous trees and leafy trees. The wood of heart is attacked only for certain nondurable species, in the event of moisture (minimum 10% with 20°C, at best 30%) or of preliminary attack by mushrooms. The wood used in construction normally is thus not touched. Caused damage: circular openings of take-off to sharp-edged edges from 1 to 2 mm of width. The resistance of wood compromises.

Economic importance

This Ravageur of the Bois is (with the Termite S) most important of the parasites attacking the cultural goods (Sculpture S, table X, Meuble S), because they are often made in sapwood, the most tender part of the trunk.

The damage with the structural timber, much harder, is of little importance.
