Small monarch

The butterfly small monarch ( Danaus chrysippus ) belongs to the family of the Nymphalidae.

Scale: 70 to 80 Misters
Period of flight: polyvoltin. With the Canary islands, every month is mentioned. In March-November, North Africa. In Mediterranean region, May-October.
Plant-hosts: Asclepias sp. .
Habitat: arid places (low or average altitude).
Distribution: Africa, in the south of the Atlas, Saudi Arabia, tropical Asia, Australia. Canary islands.
Distribution: reside in the Canary islands (Palma, Will gum It, very localized with Fuerteventura), is not undoubtedly resident any more with Tenerife and Gran Canaria). Accidental with the the Azores and sporadic on the Mediterranean coasts: south of the Spain (Malaga and Almeria) where colonies are established, Corsica, Sardinia, west of the Italy, Sicily, Montenegro, Albania, west and south of the Greece (Crete; important migration towards the south observed with Corfou in 1989). Resident and locally commun run with the Morocco in the valley of Under. Very accidental in Algeria (announced Touggourt and Ghardaia; strong migration towards the east observed in 1983 in the area of Tizi-Ouzou) and in Tunisia (in particular Sousse and Sfax.
Observations in the south of France: the Cevennes (July-August 2003), Ciotat, Rhone delta (June 2007). The caterpillar was observed on Cynanchum acutum with Palavas-the-Floods (the Eastern Pyrenees.
resembling Species: Danaus plexippus, Hypolimnas misippus (female).
