Small hydroelectric station

A small hydroelectric station is a Powerplant using the hydraulic power to produce electricity with small scales. This electricity can be used to feed from the isolated sites (one or two dwellings, a workshop of craftsman, a barn…) or resold with a public network of distribution.

The principle of operation of a small hydroelectric station consists in transforming the potential energy of a water fall into mechanical energy thanks to a Turbine, then in electrical energy by means of a Génératrice. The working installed capacity of the power station is function of the turbinate Débit of water and drop height.

One distinguishes the small hydro-electric power station (power going of 5 Mégawatt to 10 Mégawatt), of the microphone-power station (of 100 Kilowatt to 5 Mégawatt) and of the pico-power station (less than 100 Kilowatt).
