Hydrology
Small Sauldre is a river rather abundant and well supplied with provided enough precipitations of the " Fort" country; (north of the department of the Expensive). Its flow was observed during one 37 years period (1971-2007), with Ménétréol-on-Sauldre, locality of the Département of Loir-et-Cher located at good about fifteen kilometers of its confluence with the Grande Sauldre. The catchment area of the river is there of 318 km ², that is to say more than 85% of the totality of this last.
The interannual medium flow or module of the river with Ménétréol-on-Sauldre is of 3,31 m ³ a second.
Small Sauldre presents seasonal fluctuations of flow marked enough, with high waters being held in winter and characterized by average monthly flows energy of 4,87 to 6,54 m ³ a second, from December to March included (with an in February maximum). The low waters take place in summer, from July to September included, with a fall of the monthly medium flow up to 0,89 m ³ in August.
With the low water level, the VCN3 can fall until 0,390 m ³, in the event of dry quinquennial period, that is to say 390 liters a second, which is not very severe. The VCN3 is the past minimal quantity or minimal flow over three days consecutive.
As for the risings, they can be important. Thus the QIX 2 and QIX 5 or calculated flows of biennial and quinquennial rising are worth respectively 43 and 59 m ³ a second. The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is of 71 m ³ a second, the QIX 20 of 81 m ³, and the QIX 50 of 95 m ³ a second (see note).
The maximum instantaneous flow recorded with Ménétréol-on-Sauldre during the period of observation, was of 85,6 m ³ a second on January 25th, 1978, while the value maximum day laborer was of 61,6 m ³ a second on December 28th, 1999. By comparing the first of these values on a QIX scale of the river, one notes that this rising was a little more than of a vicennial nature, and thus intended to reproduce the every approximately 25-30 years.
Small Sauldre is a well provided and abundant river. The Lame of water past in its catchment area is of 329 millimetres annually, which is equivalent to the overall average of France all confused basins, but largely higher than the average of the basin of the the Loire (244 millimetres). The specific Débit of the river (or Qsp) posts of this fact a rather robust figure: 10,4 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.
