Choreographer and Dancer French, Roland Petit is born the January 13rd 1924 with Villemomble in France.

It is formed at the school of Ballet of the Opéra of Paris and enters the corps de ballet in 1940. It founds the Ballets of the Fields-Élysées in 1945 and the Ballets of Paris in 1948, with the Théâtre Marigny, with Zizi Jeanmaire like principal dancer.

He collaborates with Serge Gainsbourg and Yves the St. Lawrence and Cesar and takes part in several Film S French and American. He returns to the Opera of Paris in 1965 to assemble Notre-Dame de Paris there (music of Maurice Jarre). He still regulates ballets for the largest theaters of France, of Italy, Germany, Great Britain, the Canada and Cuba. In 1968, its ballet Turangalîla causes a small revolution within the Opera of Paris.

In 1972, with the part Pink Floyd Ballet , it founds the Ballet of Marseilles, which it will direct during twenty-six years.

For the decorations of its ballets, he will work in close cooperation with the painter Jean Carzou (1907-2000), but also with other artists like max Ernst.

Author of more than 50 creations approaching all the kinds, it choreography for a pleiad of large international dancers. He refuses the free technical effects, does not cease renewing his style and his language and became Master in the art of the step of two and the narrative ballet, but he also succeeds in the abstraction.

It collaboration also with the new realistic such as Martial Raysse, Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely.
