Small Pierre
Pierre Petit is a photographer French, born with Aups in the Var in 1831 and died in 1909.
He learns the photographic technique with famous Disderi, inventor of the calling card with photography. Quickly called " Collodion the chevelu" , it carried out several million photographs during all its career, including 25.000 portraits of ecclesiastics in all France. He is also owner of a magazine, the taken care Christian ones In 1859, it starts a gigantic project, a “Gallery of the men of the moment”, made up of 1.500 portraits accompanied by biographical notes by the personalities making the topicality by the spectacles, the culture or the political life. In 1867, it obtains the monopoly of the photgraphy for the universal expoistion. It adheres then, in 1875 at the French company of Photography and becomes the official photographer of various institutions such as the medical college, that of the Colleges, the Schools… It on several occasions goes to the Zoological gardens to photograph the exhibées people and to then sell the images to the members of the scientific institutions of the time but also to the amateurs in any kind. With 1871 to 1884, it was charged by the French State with following the construction of the Statue of Freedom to New York. At the time of the World Fair of Paris of 1878, it immortalise the head of the statue of Freedom.
