Small Italian greyhound

The small greyhound Italian , sometimes called greyhound bitch of Italy , is smallest of the dogs belonging to the group of the greyhounds (the 10th group according to the classification of the canine central Société). It is a race with whole share and not the dwarf form of another race.

It is a dog which, morphologiquement, resembles much the Lévrier greyhound, if it is not that it must weigh less 5 kg and to measure less 40 cm with the garrot.

This race is not resulting from a crossing of the modern time, such as for example the Whippet, but goes up on the contrary extremely far, since mummies of small greyhounds were found, close to the small current Italian greyhound, in the pyramids. In France, the standard of the race, provides that it is of plain color and that only some white spots (end of the legs, chest) are authorized on a dog WINDWARD SIDE, - with knowing about a dog with the Livre of the French origins registers. The colors of the small Italian greyhounds are: black, gray (blue), sand, Isabelle. But for example in the United Kingdom or in the United States, one finds dogs with larger spots. They would not be confirmed in France.

This so small dog, with the so fine pace of the greyhounds gives an impression of brittleness, but in fact, it is an extremely sharp puppy and seldom patient. Like all the greyhounds, it runs extremely well (its heart is larger than that of a dog of another of the same race cuts) and its belly greyhound bitch allows its back legs a movement which ensures him of the treads of great width. One can find small greyhounds Italian in the races of greyhounds. But that is rare, simply owing to the fact that these dogs are rather very few. One counts approximately 200 births per annum on all France.

Psychologically, the small Italian greyhound is an emotive and more sentimental dog still than the others. Very tender of nature, but very mischievous too. It needs calm in its Master to be stable because it manages the stress badly. It needs to be educated young, but without brusqueness, for finding its place well and to be left young also, in places animated not to become too apprehensive.
