Small Alföld
The small Alföld or small plain of Hungary (in Hungarian: Kisalföld , in Slovak: Malá dunajská kotlina , in German: Kleine Ungarische Tiefebene ) is a plain (tectonic basin) of approximately 8 000 km ² which extends on:
- the North-West of the Hungary;
- the south-west of the Slovakia ( Podunajská nížina - low-country of the the Danube);
- is Austria ( Neusiedler Becken - Bassin of Neusiedl and Steirisches Hügelland - hills of Styrie).
It belongs to the Plaine of Pannonia which covers the major part of Hungary.
Its limits are the Bakony-Green Carpates in north, hills (on the Lac Balaton) in the south, and the Bassin of Vienna and the the Alps in the west. In Hungary, it includes/understands the major part of the counties of Győr-Moson-Sopron and of Vas, and the western part of Komárom-Esztergom and Veszprém.
The plain is an important agricultural zone.
