Smíchov

The district of Smíchov (in German Smichow ) composes the major part of the district of Prague 5.

It is about an old independent city, attached to Prague, when enlarging of 1922.

In the district of Smíchov, one finds the buildings following:

New face of Prague

The creation of the shopping mall Anděl (the angel), as well as the building Zlatý Anděl , by Jean Nouvel made of this district, moved away in the middle of the XX° century, a new urban center. Transport is particularly developed there with the station of subway Anděl, a station of trams and a coach station.

Smíchov concentrates several aspects of Prague:

  • of many historical buildings and an old city corresponding to Náměstí 14. října (the place of October 14th).
  • an urban center modern, similar to those of the other European capitals.
  • a ghetto along the street plzeňská.
  • a residential district.
