Slipknot

Slipknot is a group of Nu metal originating in Of the Monks in the Iowa, formed in 1995 and currently forming part of the label Roadrunner Records. The Musical genre of the group is prone to debate, some classifying it of Nu metal and others of alternative Rock. The members of the group have, in addition to their true name, a number which is associated for them (going from 0 to 8).

Each year since 2000, they were nominated with the Grammy Awards in the category Best Metal Performance , and ended up gaining the edition 2006 in this category thanks to their song Before I Forget .

History

In January 1995, Shawn Crahan (Beater), Anders Colsefini (Singer), Paul Gray (Bass player), Donnie Steele and Kun Nong (Guitarist S), 5 musicians of the area of Of the Monks, founds a group intended according to them for “all to break”. As of the month of February, Kun leaves the group for still unknown reasons; it will be replaced in September by Josh Brainard. Shawn, wearied to be Beater and having at the head the idea to have three in the group of them (a principal Beater and two making use of drumkit to make the group more aggressive musicalement and visually), decided to leave its place to Joey Jordison to devote itself to the percussions, helped of Anders. The group occurred first of all under several names such as Meld , The Pales Ones or PyGSYSTEM , before choosing Slipknot coming from English knot meaning node and of slipway meaning slipping , thus forming running node .

The first line-up stable date of 1995:

It is with this line-up that Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat was recorded, fine 1995, beginning 1996. The session of recording finished, Slipknot gained a local battle , vis-a-vis the group Stone Sour where Corey Taylor was the Chant eur. Donnie left the group thereafter, not being more at ease with its musical orientation; it was replaced temporarily by Craig Jones, which dealt then with the Sample S on arrival of Mick Thomson at the station of Guitariste.
M.F.K.R left in Halloween 1996. The demonstration was received with Of the Monks and in his area.

During the summer 1997, when Stone Sour and Slipknot met again, Shawn and Joey succeeded in convincing with Corey to join them. Anders left the group at the time of a concert towards the end of the year, feeling put at the variation since the arrival of Corey. Gregory Welts joined then the group where it replaced Percussionniste, followed then Sid Wilson, DJ, noticed by Shawn after one of their Concert S.

In February 1998, Ross Robinson attended a Concert of Slipknot, which was a success.

Chris Fehn succeeded Brandon Darner, which took over temporarily the duties at the beginning of Greg at the station of Percussionniste in June. It was martyrisé by the remainder of the group, forced to look at a film with tendency scatophile; the scene was filmed, and one can hear it besides at the end of the song Scissors of the album Slipknot , before the hidden song Eeyore (one intends Chris to vomit). Six months later, the group began the recording of their new album, then they signed a contract with the label Roadrunner Records the July 8th. The recording finished in September. Josh announced its departure then, preferring to remain with his wife rather than on the roads, it was replaced by James Root.

The line-up of the time is still of topicality, it did not have no change there thereafter.

The homonymous album, regarded as their first album, is appeared the June 29th 1999, produced by Ross Robinson. The album was sold well, grace in particular to the word of mouth, and became the first album of Roadrunner to becoming platinum disc (more than one million discs sold with the the United States). Their fan-club increased also much thanks to the Ozzfest 1999, where they gained one big hit. This album and the Concert S having promoted it made it possible the group to carry out their first DVD, named Welcome To Our Neighborhood , containing many scenes live, it left fine 1999.

2001 was the year of exit of the album Iowa (the August 28th), which was very well accommodated, beginning directly in the 1st place of the classification English of the best sales. Besides the group occurred much in Concert to promote it, one of these Concert S (with London) was used to record their second DVD: Disasterpieces . The group also appeared in 2002 in the film Rollerball with live of I Am Hated .

The following album, vol. 3: (The Subliminal Pour) , produced by Rick Rubin (having already worked with for example System off has Down, Slayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers,…), the May 25th 2004 left. As usual the album a great success gained. It marks a turning in the style of the group, in comparison with the ultra-aggressive songs of Iowa which are now more melody and calmer, but without however losing their aggressiveness completely. The group started then a great world tour, whose majority of the Concert S proceeded with closed counters.

The first album live of the group, , was recorded at the time of the Subliminal Pour Turn beginning 2005 during concerts with Phoenix, Las Vegas, Osaka, Singapore and Tokyo.

Their third DVD, left the December 4th 2006, entitled Voliminal: Inside The Nine and produced by Shawn. It contains scenes live, but especially much of scenes turned in slide. Interview S of all the members (completely uncovered for the majority) except Craig (wishing to preserve its private life), like certain songs played into live.

The group is also known for its image: the members carry Masque S single to each one and Uniforme S where are printed is a Code bar, a star with 9 branches, 666 , a goat, an S Tribal,… the masks and the uniforms are changed for each album (even more often). They carried at certain periods the blouses oranges of the American prisoners, or an entirely gray behavior, to arrive, currently, with a black behavior. The masks, although often changed, preserve overall the same guiding line (clown, mask with peaks, etc).

Initially the members had the desire to remain mysterious, refusing to be photographed without mask; the Interview S and the photographs with the fans were made with the masks (or the faces were at least hidden). The other reason of the wearing of their masks is to focus the attention on their music, and not on themselves. Slipknot would have also taken as a starting point the group Mushroomhead which would have carried masks as of their formation in 1993. This history is besides the origin of the quarrel between the two groups, Mushroomhead being assembled three times on scene, lasting a round in the Ohio, carrying the Masque S and the Costume S of Slipknot, and having made stress with crowd “Fuck Slipknot” at the end of the Concert S.

Today the majority of the members of the group were photographed without their masks, in particular because of their projects parallel in Slipknot:

In the clip Vermillion , they thread masks representing their real faces, and in that of Before I Forget , the group plays without their masks, but he is filmed in such way so that one sees only briefly an eye or a mouth, the camera is focused most of the time on their instruments and their masks, the latter being posed by ground or being suspended with davits.

Future of the group

April 19th, 2007, Internet site of the group published an article declaring that a new album of Slipknot will leave in 2008 and that the recording will begin next January. Jordison declared during an interview which this album would be more heavy that the precedent but which it will be also " expérimental". It is thus certain that the group will leave at least a new album and it could be thus that this one is the last but the members of the groups acknowledge that they did not take aucunes decisions on this subject.
