Slicer
A slicer is a motorized Scie and portable of size and power variables. Its employment is common in Sylviculture, in bucheronnage (by the Bûcheron S), in green areas (by the pruner S), in gardening (by the private individuals). Its use is primarily the tree felling, pruning, the size of the hedges, wood-cutting of heating, and for any other maintenance work of the green areas.
Description
The slicers consist of a small engine at two times (certain models, smaller, use electrical motors), of a blade or guides and the chain of slicer. Generally each segment of the chain (which is an assembly of riveted metal links, similar to a chain of bicycle) is equipped with a blade called “gouge” of round, semi form square or square. Each link is composed of the part gouges equipped with a sharp edge (sharpened according to quite precise angles) and with a limiting device thickness. Certain slicers have only one tooth all the two links and are used for the tender wood cutting. The engine actuates the blade at enough fast speed to produce an effective cut.
History
There are debates on the origin of the slicers, but two important contributors are Joseph Buford Cox and Andreas Stihl. Second developed and patented a slicer in 1926 and a slicer with gas oil in 1929, then a company for the mass production of these products.Since their introduction, the slicers became a paramount tool of wood-cutting. However, technological change helping, the loggers are replaced by motorized equipment which carries out a whole of operation: demolition, pruning and cutting up, more quickly than the man.
Before the invention of the slicer, it was difficult for the companies of cut to cut down the trees more quickly than pushes back to them. The appearance of slicers light and effective definitively modified this situation, which constitutes an big event, so much in the ecological plan than in the plan Politique.
Maintenance
A slicer has usually two sources of lubrication. Like the majority of the engines at two times, the fuel (unleaded gas 95) contains oil, between 2% and 5% according to the models. Another tank contains the oil specifically designed for the lubrication of the blade and the chain. The contents of this tank empty by the Centrifugal force printed with the chain when it turns on the toothed Roue which involves it. As precaution, it is often filled at the same time as the fuel tank. Several breakings of chain occur indeed when this tank is empty, or although oil used is not suitable. In the presence of certain wood turpentines, the operator must manually release the oil exits, which are stopped by the particles which stick to the holes letting run out oil. The wood particles can also stop the air filter. In this case, it must be released with the hand, but in normal operation, this problem hardly occurs. Several operators rub it with pure gasoline, because oil supports the adherence of the particles.
The chain must be sharpened well (the term to sharpen is rather intended for the blades like those of the knives) to ensure an easy cut. One can use a Lime round rise on a guide, or resort to an electric sharpening machine especially designed for this purpose. In this case, it is necessary to dismount the chain. The guide ensures that the gouges are sharpened according to the best angle. A sharpening with the hand can give a better result, but the electric sharpeners are faster, especially when the chain is damaged or dirtied. The teeth made up of carbides must be sharpened by especially trained technicians.
Culture
The slicer became rather popular like instrument of destruction and torture, in particular in films such as Scarface , Massacre with the slicer or in some Film of horror S, like Evil Dead or the Army of dead the . They also appear in video games such as Doom and Grand Theft Auto .In Warhammer 40,000 , the slicers are rather widespread weapons in Imperium and also among its enemies, but modified so as to be taken in hand like a sword.
In a more marginal way, the slicer was also used in music by groups such as Jackyl (Hard rock) or Gloomy Grim (Black metal).
