Slam (magazine)
SLAM is an American magazine of Basket-ball publishes since 1994 by Primedia. SLAM published 9 numbers per annum. It is read by more than 500.000 people throughout the world.
History
SLAM was launched in 1994. Specialized in the Basketball, it shared this sport with the culture hip-hop at one time when this kind became increasingly popular. Created by the editor as a chief Cory Johnson, her first publication reveals in cover Larry Johnson. This first number reports the history of the former player of the Charlotte Hornets as well as an article on the young person (of the time) Jason Kidd playing then pure the University of California. Many headings, always present today in the magazine, appeared as of this first number like " In Your Face" , " Slam-a-da-month" and " Last Shot". The magazine also presents a part devoted to shopping by presenting products in relation to the Basket-ball, clothing " street wear" or many CD of hip-hop. It was thus quoted as being a vector of the markets of the hip-hop and Basket-ball.SLAM published more than 100 numbers since its creation and revealed the great names of the American Basket-ball on its covers, in its articles and its famous posters " SLAMups". To date, a woman only appeared on the cover of SLAM : Chamique Holdsclaw in October 1998. Allen Iverson appeared nine times on the cover (the record of the Magazine) while Michael Jordan follows it with eight appearances.

Headings of the magazine
- SLAMADAMONTH - a short article describing a Dunk accompanied by a Photography by the action. This heading generally presents a Dunk realized by a player NBA but it also introduced university players in past. The first SLAMADAMONTH had as a representative Chris Webber in the train of dunker on Charles Barkley.

NOYZ - a series of short jokes (a line in general) commenting on recent events of the Basketball and published anonymously. The first column of NOYZ appeared in the number of March 1995.

In Your Face - Presentation on a page of players NBA, academics, female or international.

Last Shot - an old heading presenting a shot having saved a match. This part disappeared after the number of January 2000.

The SLAM high school diary - In 1994, SLAM began a tradition: to choose a player of Basketball talented high-school pupil in order to follow his performances until its passage to the University or in NBA. Since the beginning of this heading, six of the eleven followed players played in NBA. Only LeBron James and Sebastian Telfair was not in their last year of college at the time of the articles.
