In ancient Greece, a skyphos (in Greek old σκύφος / skúphos ) is a goblet, i.e. a type of vase to drinking high of 5 with 15 cm, generally without feet.
One distinguishes several types of skyphos:
-
standard Corinthian: edge bent towards the interior;
- standard attic a: horizontal handles inserted under the edge;
- standard attic B (also called glaux type): a horizontal handle and a vertical, inserted under the edge;
- skyphos with lip (also called cut-skyphos): bent handles inserted into half-length, edge curved towards outside.
The type of the skyphos emerges as of the geometrical Period, initially with Corinthe. The shape is then regained by the Athenian potters .
