Skogskyrkogården

Skogskyrkogården ( the Cemetery of Wood ) is a Cimetière located at Stockholm in Sweden.

It was built following a contest of Architecture which took place in 1915, and which aimed at establishing the plans of a new cemetery in the south of Stockholm. The winners of the contest were Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz, two young representatives of the functionalist movement . Work began in 1917 and finished in 1920. The architects took as a starting point the existing landscape to create a particularly pleasant and attractive environment which then inspired many cemeteries all over the world.
