The skipping rope or cord to dance (Québécisme) is used with the Jeu as skipping, generally practiced by one or more children in the course of recreation jumping to the top of a cord in rotation, so that the cord passes under their feet and to the top of their head. Competition

Many people regard the skipping as a simple activity and amusing reserved to the children. However, it is a Sport for which serious athletes involve themselves all the year. To jump to the cord requires force, Endurance, concentration and Patience.

Thus the skipping rope is practiced in individual competition or by team in several countries like the China, the the United States, the Canada, the Australia… a typical competition consists of one or more free tests ( Freestyle ) and of speed. In free test, the jumper must carry out a combination of figures in a given time, accompanied by Musique. In test of speed, the goal is to carry out the maximum of jumps in a fixed time. The world records are of 188 jumps in 30 seconds. There exists a world competition which is held every two years in July. In July 2004 it was held in Australia and in 2006 it will take place in Canada.
