Skhira

Skhira or Skhira (rear RTL سخيرا) is a city located on the Golfe of Gabès (370 kilometers in the south of Tunis).

Attached administratively to the Governorship of Sfax, it constitutes a municipality of 8627 inhabitants.

It is also important a port commercial specialized in the traffic of products Industrie ls. Indeed, it has a basin a depth making it possible to accommodate ships measuring up to 120.000 barrels. A project of 2nd factory is under development by a Consortium indo - Tunisia N and would be operational in 2009.

Skhira was selected to shelter the 2nd Raffinerie country (after that of Bizerte): a project allotted in May 2007 to the industry group Qatar Petroleum. At the end of the Invitation to tender gained, the Entreprise qatarie will have to build a refinery of a capacity of 120.000 Baril S per day (against 30.000 for Bizerte). Its exploitation is entrusted to him for one 30 years period. A Oléoduc would be built between the Libya and Skhira to provide the essence of crude oil in the long term. The oil refined in priority would be provided by pipeline towards Sfax (2nd economic center of the country) and the the Tunisian Sahel over a 181 kilometers length.
