SketchUp is a Logiciel of modeling 3D directed Architecture, published by the company @Last Software. It is characterized by simple tools (Rotation, Extrusion, displacement, etc), but is in fact a software 3D very different from the traditional modellers 3D.

Principle

Separately the fact that he is a modeller handling only surfaces, its originality rests primarily on the principle of the Inférence. The software proposes itself an action of modeling appropriate to the context: to create a face, to extrude it, divide it, draw on a face, to cut out according to the drawn curve, to make a cut, etc But these capacities require to demolish practices taken on a modeller standard 3D.

The Rendu of SketchUp is able to imitate as well a sketch by a show of hands (from where the name of sketch which means English sketch) to carry out a precise technical design with shadows and textures.

SketchUp is also extensible by the scripts written in language Ruby. Scripts extending the capacities of modeling and conversion are available on Internet, including one exporting the models towards the program of returned Pov-Ray.

SketchUp and Google

In March 2006, the security company of SketchUp was repurchased by Google. The two companies collaborated together before the repurchase, because SketchUp was the software which made it possible to create the buildings in 3D in Google Earth. Since April 2006, Google diffuses two versions of this software: Google SketchUp free and SketchUp paying Pro. The free version has all the basic functionalities for modeling and returned but no module of animation has, nor of export of the models carried out towards formats current 3D.

January 9th, 2007, version 6 of SketchUp is made available. It brings new tools, a beta release of the new complementary software Google SketchUp LayOut and the universal binary code for Mac-Intel. Layout comprises tools of vectors 2D and page layout making the creation of presentations easier for the professionals and this without need for transfer to a software of third presentation.

The formats of importation suggested in the two versions are 3DS, DEM or Autocad (DWG, DXF). The paying version laying out of more than capacity of importation.

The site of SketchUp proposes step by step many Didacticiel S (realized with SketchUp) facilitating its catch in hand.
