Skellefteå AIK

Skellefteå AIK Hockey (SAIK) is a club of professional Hockey of Sweden, localized with Skellefteå and evolving/moving in the Elitserien .

History

The SAIK was founded in 1921, although hockey makes its entry within the club only in 1943, with only of the disputed matches of drive the first season. In 1943-44, the club joint with the local league, the Skellefteserien , season which could not be finished because of the unfavourable conditions of temperatures (matches were outside played). In 1985, the organization hockey is detached and Skellefteå AIK Hockey is born.

In 1955, the SAIK is qualified for the highest Swedish league. In 1957-58, it gains the Northern Group of the the second division (Allsvenskan) and finishes then second of the Sm-serien , only one not behind Djurgårdens IF. The SAIK will play thereafter until in 1967 in the northern division of Division 1. The club had difficulty of being qualified for a continuous play in Division 1, but 1975, they gain the league and finish 4th Sm-serien thereafter. When the league was famous Elitserien , the SAIK was one of the first clubs to be played there.

After 16 seasons spent in the lower leagues, the SAIK is qualified again for Elitserien for the season 2006-07.
