Skagway

Skagway is a city of the south-east of the Alaska which counted 862 inhabitants in 2000.

The name comes from the word “Skagway” wants to say “city of the wind” in the local indigenous language.

The city constitutes a popular stage of the cruising ships passing in the area and the Tourisme represents a big part of the economy of the city.

The only road access is done by the Klondike road which passes by the Yukon. However, the ferry of Alaska Marine Highway connects Skagway to Prince Rupert (CB), Bellingham (WA) as well as other places in Alaska like Juneau, the capital.

It is in the town of Skagway that is held, in 1896, part of the action of film of Anthony Mann of 1954 I am an adventurer with James Stewart.
