Ska-P

Ska-P is a Spanish group of punk Ska formed in 1994 with Madrid in the district of Vallecas in which certain members are originating.

Presentation

The name Ska-P is a Word game because in Spanish one pronounces “escapé” what wants to say " I am échappé". The most known titles of the group are: Cannabis (Legalizacion) ; El Vals del Obrero ; Paramilitar or Planeta Eskoria .

The mascot of the group is the Gato Lopez (name resulting probably from a mixture between Tony Lopez, manager of the group and El Gato Montes, Spanish song traditional), renfrogné punk cat which represents well the strong engagement Politique which characterizes Ska-P, thus the group - which asserts Anarchiste openly - fights on all fronts: against the Capital punishment, the lack of Freedom, the Poverty, for the Intifada (Antisionisme)… The perfect illustration of this statute is the free concert suggested at the time of the G8 with Annemasse or the standpoint supports some at the Zapatist Indian communities or of the EZLN (Zapatist Armée with national release) to the Chiapas (Mexico), and as a whole the great interest of the group for the Latin America where they made great rounds. But they keep the heart in Spain, from which they do not fail to denounce the political or social dysfunctions, like the life of the popular quarters of Vallecas, discrimination, the royalty… The whole in an festive atmosphere which engages with the awakening, because the true force of this group is the vitality of the Concert S which it gives (Mise in scene, interactivity with the public), getting an international recognition to him which can only better serve the propagation of its message.

History

1994-1995

Ska-P was formed in 1994 around Pulpul, Yanclas, Julio, Kogote and Pako. After a few months of repetitions, the group is not long in leaving later 0,7 a first own-produced already provocative album then republished a few years by Sony. In spite of that the group is not success, they play in small rooms for minor amounts of people in spite of the songs Como Rayo an anthem with the football club Rayo Vallecano and 0,7.

1995-1996

Toni Escobar leaves the group, too tired, while Ska-P engages Joxemi coming from Navarre after many tests with various guitarists, because they did not seek a guitarist of experiment but one which had the same history and the same ideas as them. They also engage Pipi, as a showman, a buddy of the group which until there helped the group to charge the material. With Ska-P, the two men repeat and compose night and day for the exit of the exit of the following album El Vals del Obrero and thanks to the song '' Cannabis '', the group will be a success in France, and Latin America.

1997-1999

The group leaves then Eurosis , after one month of rest and turns in Spain and turns more and more in France. They also carry out its first round in Latin America and more precisely in Argentine in first part of the group Attaque 77 of which a concert at the stage Obras in front of 4  000 people as with the Mexico which will have lasted one month. Pako leaves then the group replaced by Luismi right before a round in Italy and a passage to the festival Arezzo Wave in front of 10  000 people.

2000-2002

The year 2000 accommodates a new album Planeta Eskoria very committed against the Spanish government, where they harden their sound, and become a little more serious. Their concerts are already distributed between France, Italy, Switzerland and Spain.

In 2002 leaves Which the voz will corra of which the song Welcome To Hell a song being opposed to the capital punishment. Perhaps the most complete disc of Ska-P, since they same regard it as a perfect mixture of the personality of the members of the group. Containing many mockeries, much irony and various other characters. The group turns from now on to the four corners of the Europe in countries like the Hungary, the Austria, the Holland, the Belgium like in South America like the Argentine, the Chile and the Mexico.

2004-2005

Ska-P finishes in 2003 with Incontrolable an album live of Paris and Nyon, Suisse containing a DVD with videos clip and images of the European round.

Unspecified pause

The group started a long unspecified pause beginning 2005 after 10 years of service, but however ensured an ultimate round during the summer 2005 which was completed by a concert with Buenos Aires with the festival Pepsi music in front of more than 10.000 people.

Pulpul continuous to compose for a possible future album, while Joxemi benefits from it for being better invested in a group of the name of Relaxed No created in 2003 with an Italian singer, who left two albums the name of Gridalo! and of Virus De Rebelión . As for Pipi it also forms part of a new group: The Locos of which he is the principal singer and which the first album Jaula de Grillos left at the beginning of the summer 2006. Kogote plays to him with the group of Spanish Reggae Salida Nula .

Pulpul announced on the official site of ska-p on November 12th, 2007, (either 2 years day for day after the last concert of Ska-P in Argentina) that tests were going to be carried out with the former members of the in January 2008 group in order to see which was the frame of mind of the group and what remained old repertory. This for possible a new album planned for the end of 2008.

Ideas

Ska-P is a committed group which does not hide its opinions from its songs, its small pockets of albums or its concerts. They are especially very committed for the Human rights. As of its first album the group does not fail to criticize the Racisme, the Corrida S, the Tiers-monde, the Corruption and the Télé reality.

The second album is even more committed than the first but this one criticizes openly the Spain, the Chômage but it is above all known for its song '' Cannabis '' for the legalization of the cannabis. The group pays homage with this album to the proletarians like to his mascot El Gato Lopez .

The third album Eurosis attacks with the Spain and its king with step less than three songs. The group refers to the Latin America in two their songs, whereas the small pocket of the album attacks the Euro, the European common currency.

The fourth album Planeta Eskoria is already provocative of share its title (translated into French Planet Waste ), and its criticisms are directed towards various targets, such as the Xénophobie, the marital violences, the social inequalities; the group also attacks the pope.

For the fifth album the group speaks about Révolution and Drogue, but it attacks especially with the Charlatan S and the Capital punishment.
