Six Flags Over Georgia

Six Flags Over Georgia is a Amusement park of the company Six Flags, located at Austell close to Atlanta in Georgia. It is the second park of the chain Six Flags, open in 1967, after that of the open Texas in 1961.

With the two parks Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags St Louis, they are the three only parks of the chains Six Flags to be founded by Angus G. Wynne. Moreover they are the only ones to carry since their openings the prefix “Six Flags”, the other parks simply having been most of the time repurchased.

Like the other parks of the chain, the park proposes characters of the library Warner Bros., mainly the Looney Tunes and the League of the dispensers of justice of cd. Comics.

History

After the success of the first park Six Flags with Arlington in Texas, its founder, Angus Wynne seeks a site for a second park. It decided for a piece of ground located along the river Chattahoochee just at the west of the town of Atlanta. Work of design began in 1963. With the opening of the park of Atlanta in 1967, the company Six Flags was the first operator amérciain of amusement parks to have two parks. However at the time several parks had names similar and popular like Coney Island or Luna Park but it was their only bond. In the case of Six Flags, it was the first time that the same company held two parks. This innovation was quickly taken again and for example since 1971, the Disney company proposed it-also two parks.

With the image of the park texan, the plan and the set of themes of Six Flags Over Georgia were inspired by the six flags which flew above the state during its history: France, Spain, the United Kingdom, the Georgia, the States confederated of America and the the United States of America. The French flag can be disputed because of the very weak French presence in Georgia; moreover one can recall that Georgia was never a state souverrain. However the poetic license the intention of the name can be regarded as valid. In any event, the majority of the historical topics were replaced with the passing of years by topics of cartoon or the supermen.

The park in the beginning was not exactly a property of the company Six Flags Topic Parks. By an arrangement similar to that of Six Flags Over Texas, the park was held by a limited group of roughly 120 partners, of which close relations of Angus G. Wynn and managed by the company. This system led to the sale of the parks with First Parks which renamed Six Flags Inc.
