Sivry (Belgium)
Sivry (in Walloon Chévri ) is a section of the common Belgian of Sivry-Rancid, located in Walloon region in the Province of Hainaut.
It was a commune with whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.
It is the administrative center of Sivry-Rancid.
Geography
The village counts a little more than 7.000 hectares. This commune of the Boot of Hainaut, frontier with France, is closer to the French cities of Avesnes-on-Helpe, Solre-the-Castle and of Maubeuge that of Mons, chief town of the province. In addition, the towns of Beaumont and Chimay are the Belgian cities closest to the village. History
Sivry is the administrative center of the communal entity of Sivry-Rancid, strong of 5 villages. 1550 inhabitants remain in this roomy locality since it counts 2.287 hectares of surface. Chevrotins (as are called the inhabitants of Sivry are happy in their village. One does not say: “Did I deny K' Chévri”? (There is only one Sivry).The popular tradition wants that the name of “Chévri” comes owing to the fact that there were formerly many goats. The popular blazon designates us besides as “spoil them of Chévri” (goats of Sivry).
Gullied by many the rus which forms Thure, the landscape of Sivry-Rancid contains a rural history rich in events happy or unhappy, anecdotic or legendary. Thus, war 14-18 left many deaths, burnt houses and a devastated church.

The Permanent Center of Nature
Located in full nature in a site délicieusement flowered, he proposes to the visitors 2 telescopes, a spectacle of planetarium, an official station of the IRM (Royal Institute of Meteorology) and an office of time with the reception of the Météosat satellite, the sundials and the gardens of plants. In 1967, Scientific Youths create the CPEN (Permanent Center of Study of Nature) which is at the time a asbl. Created in 1967 by Scientific Youths, the CPEN was invested in the fields of astronomy and meteorology. For this purpose, a cupola which shelters a telescope of Newton mounting was built in 1980. Parallel to that, the Center was equipped for the study of meteorology and became an official station of the IRM. In September 1991, the CPEN amalgamated with the Center of Urban Ecology and Geography of Fleurus. Today, the CPEN accommodates the children and the teenagers eager to discover meteorology and astronomy using equipment placed at their disposal while being assisted and being framed by a personnel specialized in each discipline. Meteorology and astronomy particularly motivate the teachers who are increasingly numerous to reserve the Center for one week, a few days or a day in order to take along their pupils there. Other topics such as the ecosystem, geology, the agroalimentary one, water, the area and its landscape, the area and its history,… are also approached the teaching purpose of the CPEN is of: - to create a motivation, an amazement, an irresistible desire of more; - to give the opportunity to the pupils and to students to take a step moreover towards the discovery of the SCIENTIFIC METHOD. Wood of Heather
To walk while discovering the life of the forest and the practices forestry, such are the goals of the éco-educational path of the Wood of Heather. The path is based on a walk of some 2,5 km in the form of loop. The circuit begins with the surface from reception where the visitor can station in full safety.
