Sisters of Joseph Saint of the Appearance
The Sœurs of Joseph Saint of the Appearance form a religious Congrégation Catholique apostolic founded in 1832 with Gaillac (Tarn) by holy Emilie de Vialar (1797-1856).
Born in Gaillac, during 20 years it is devoted to the patients and with the poor and in 1832, with three partners, it founds the teaching and hospital congregation of Saint Joseph of the Appearance . They pronounce their wishes of poverty, chastity and obedience the following year. It was canonized in 1951.
The congregation knows a fast expansion because at the end of 24 years, in 1856, it counts more than 40 houses.
As of 1835, it establishes it in Algérie to look after the population at the time of an epidemic of Choléra, then in Tunisia (1840) and still the Italy, Cyprus, Greece, Lebanon, Burma, Syria, Arménie, Ottoman Empire, Bulgaria…
It counts in 2007 nine hundred members, of 26 nationalities distributed in 154 houses in the world, in France and the countries above, in Australia, India, Thailand, Argentine, Guatemala, Panama, Peru, England, Ireland, Palestine, Israel, (schools with Jerusalem, Ramallah and Bethlehem manage), Romania. The head office is in Paris 15th, 83, rue de l'Abbé Groult. They are present in schools, hospitals, hearths… and near poor populations, meeting their needs more shouting.
