Sisters of Annonciade
The Sœurs of Annonciade form a religious Congrégation Catholique the contemplative founded one with Bourges (Cher) (Berry) in 1501 by Saint E Jeanne de Valois (or Jeanne de France).
Jeanne de Valois was the girl of Louis XI, born the April 23rd 1454 with Nogent-the-King, deceased the February 4th 1505.
She was crippled and rather ugly. His/her father had married it very young person with his Louis cousin of Orleans (future Louis XII) to extinguish the house of Orleans. But, after the death of Charles VIII, Louis of Orleans becomes king de France under the name of Louis XII. He obtains the December 17th 1498 the cancellation of his marriage for not-consumption of the marriage and defect of assent (Louis of Orleans had married under the threat) to be able to marry the widow of Charles VIII, Anne of Brittany, as the marriage contract between Anne and Charles stipulated it.
In 1501, that which is not any more that the duchess of Berry founds the contemplative Order of Annonciade, so that, on the ground, each one of us, quite conscious of its own deficiencies, becomes however in conformity with the life of the Virgin Mary, for the honor of God and the safety of the monde". With the head of the Order, it will not cease any more giving the example of the research of the evangelic perfection. The rule is approved by the pope Urbain VI in 1502.
It was Béatifié E the June 18th 1742, then Canonisé E by Pie XII the May 28th 1950.
Currently in France one counts six abbeys of Sœurs of Annonciade:
- Brucourt (Apple-brandy)
- Thiais (the Valley-of-Marne)
- Saint-Doulchard, close to Bourges, since the June 16th 1988 when 8 sisters of Thiais came to settle in the monastery
- Villeneuve-sur-Lot
- Peyruis (Alp-of-High-Provence)
- Menton (the Alpes-Maritimes) since the year 2000.
