Sister Cities International

Sister Cities International is a Association with nonlucrative goal whose seat is with Washington D.C.

Goal

It organizes Jumelage S between cities of the United States of America and d´autres cities of the whole world. The Sustainable development, youth and the education, the Art S and the culture, the humanitarian Aid and economic development are the principal fields concerned with the program of the organization.

Its goal is to promote positive ratios between the people and to take part in economic development in the whole world by encouraging the co-operation and the exchanges between the communities.

The programs of Sister Cities International make it possible to the members to build relations of long life and to discover other cultures, in particular thanks to exchanges between students and professionals. 132 countries and 2.300 cities are members of this network today, but the organization seeks to increase each year the number of partners and twinnings, because it is necessary to keep peaceful relations with the other countries.

History

The organization celebrates, in 2006, the 50e birthday of this diplomatic movement which took form after the second world war following a speech made with the White House by the US president Dwight D. Eisenhower, at the time of a top having for topic the Diplomatie between the Citizens . He encouraged his fellow-citizens then to extend in a pacifist way their relations beyond the borders.
