Bore-Red is a series of cartoon by Jean-Michel Charlier (scenario) and Victor Hubinon (drawing), which reports the adventures of the pirate Bore-Red at the time of the flibustiers.

History

  • Published by Pilot as of its first number in 1959, this series of one of the most prolix scenario writers of cartoons appears then directly in the form of albums and passes in the magazine Super Ace in 1979 and 1980.
  • To died of Hubinon in 1979, and until 1982, the drawing is taken again by Jijé (albums 18: Raid on the Horn of Gold to 21: missings of the Falcon-Black ) and Laurent Gillain which signs Lorg. When Jijé disappears in its turn, it is replaced by two draftsmen who, case then new in the history of the Franco-Belgian data base, work each one on their album: Christian Gaty, of which the manner remains faithful to that of Jijé, and Patrice Pellerin, nearer to Giraud. The albums are published by Dargaud since 1994.
  • Although the final chapter of its stories was written by Didier Convard and André Julliard (1998), Bore-Red, following the example Buck Danny or Blueberry, did not die with its scenario writer on July 10th, 1989. The scenario of the series is taken again by Jean Olivier then by Christian Perrissin. Marc Bourgne has since taken again volume 32 the drawing, whereas Jean-Jacques Chagnaud takes care of the color since then.

Synopsis

This large cartoon of adventure invites her reader to embark on board black Falcon, the vessel of the pirate Bore-Red who, under the nickname of Demon of the Caribbean, sows terror on the seven seas at the time of the flibuste. During a bloody combat, Bore-Red saves a young boy whom it adopts and baptizes Eric. It hopes well to make a pirate of it, but the boy is more than reticent. Not to lose the affection of this wire adoptive, the Demon of the Caribbean is put from time to time at the service of king de France to fight his Spanish and English enemies. Always accompanied by Baba, the black giant, and from Triple Leg, the unijambist, the two heroes pass from an ocean to another in order to fighting for the good cause, but also to discover treasures or to help beautiful prisoners.

The high-speed motorboat of many episodes is held by Eric, who holds the role of hero " positif" series, Bore-red being sometimes brought back to the row of supporting role.

Curiosity

A parody of Bore-red and its crew appeared in the album of the series Astérix the Gallic Astérix gladiator : the boat of Bore-red was quickly made run by Astérix and Obélix. Born from a joke of Rene Goscinny with regard to Jean-Michel Charlier, the appearance of the pirate crew ended up becoming a recurring gag in the albums of Astérix, their boat being regularly run by the Gallic ones. What was worth an almost single case of becoming character of cartoon, in a parodic form, a character of another series, the pastiche becoming even more known than the original. The reference to the original series was partially blurred, Albert Uderzo modifying with the wire of the episodes the silhouette of the pirate captain, who is never named besides (beard fair and either red, silhouette thicker). The characters of Bore-red used in the albums of Astérix are Bore-red itself, Baba and Triple-leg. Eric appears only in the Turn de Gaulle d' Astérix , under the name of " Erix". In Astérix and Cléopâtre , Bore-red says to have left it in guarantee against a new boat (which will be shortly after cast).
