Sisak
Sisak is a town of Croatia located at 60 kilometers in the south of the capital, Zagreb. It is today a town of 50.000 inhabitants which starts to discover its very rich last antique through the archaeological excavations in progress.
History
The celto-Roman city of Siscia. Founded by Celts at 4th front century J.C who baptized it Segesta then Segestica, named Siscia by the Romans, it knew various orthographies in Sissek, Sisek, Sziszek, before becoming Sisak.Located on a hillock in the middle of old marshes at the confluence of Sava - coming from North and the Kupa river - coming from the West, this site made it possible to control the commercial traffic, in particular that of iron and coal coming from current the Bosnia-Herzégovine. It seems that the termination in " tica" refers to the river port of the city, established on bank of Kupa. Celtic traces of establishments were discovered under Roman walls in center town and on the edges of Kupa.
Among other vestiges, those of the Southern Roman wall - date of the 1st S. AD, and Northern monumental door show that the city was étandait on a distance from 1600 Mr.
Siscia was the Roman capital of large Pannonia.
