The city becomes one of the high places of romantic architecture: the English poet Lord Byron accomplishes many stays there; prince Ferdinand of Saxony Cobourg-Gotha of Bavaria buys the ruins of the old monastery of Notre-Dame of Péna built in 1503 and undertakes the construction of the palate of Pena: this one is characterized by a mixture of styles (Gothic, Moor, Renaissance and manuélin); he arranges, moreover, a gathering park, beside the local gasolines, of many exotic gasolines. The framework of the city takes part largely in the passion of all Europe for this city.
Demography
Geography
Sintra is located in the province of the Estrémadure, with the foot and on the northern slope of Serra of Sintra, a narrow green chain at the granitic tops which lengthens between Lisbon and the coast of the Atlantic.
The exceptional climate of this area supports the presence of a dense and rich vegetation in cash in the middle of a national park classified by UNESCO. Rightly, Byron had called it the “Glorious Eden”.
Economy
Culture
Inheritance
The city is surrounded by Retiros, luxurious properties where retirement was made, and of Quintas, houses halfway between the farm and the small palace, where the aristocracy lisboète came to seek freshness in summer.
