History

As of the Roman epoch, Sint Hubert was an hunting ground and the village bears the name of the patron saint of hunting. Located in the Country of Cuijk, the little populated locality was regarded during centuries as a hamlet of Wanroy. In XIVe century, Wanroy, Millet and Sint Hubert had only one college of aldermen ( schepenbank ) for low justice, Cuijk having high justice. Until the French period, the three villages remained plain. About 1810 with the formation of the communes of the Netherlands, Wanroy chosit communal independence, while Sint Hubert remains faithful to Mill by forming the commune of Mill in Sint Hubert.

The church, the parish

The vault, later church Saint Hubert de Sint Hubert dates from XVe century and was a dependence of the parish of Millet. The Gothic building of style is of an elegant simplicity. The tower of three stages is authentically XVe. The nave without sides is of XVIe century; from this period also the statue goes back to Sainte Catharine, girl of the emperor Maxentius. The walls are divided by buttresses into four spans with windows into semicircular arch of an antiquated nature. The pulpit with these low-reliefs and the confessional are XVIIIe century.

From 1648 to the French period, the church is seized by the Protestants, even if the village remains catholic. The building is used for to store peats. In 1745 one builds in Mill a barn-church for the inhabitants of Millet and Sint Hubert. This barn-church is used up to 1825.

During the French invasion Sint Hubert becomes independent parish. The church becomes parochial and sudden some changes; one places several statues of saints dating from the end of the XVIIIe century: Jacques saint the Major one, Holy Hubert, holy Beard. In 1825 the nave is equipped with a vault out of barrel covered with stucco.

In 1934 the church is increased with a transverse arm and a bedside. On this occasion one placed the current vitrails and paintings.

Since 2004, the parish is one of the 5 partners of the pastoral unit of Millet.

Ferruginous marsh

The site of Sint Hubert enjoys a rather particular geological phenomenon. Following a fault of the ground, the ferruginous water of the Peel leaves to this place in a marsh, formant of the ferruginous stone deposits. This stone is used amongst other things for the foundations of the church and in the gate of the tower. Until the end of the XIXe century the marsh was exploited like an iron mine with sky discovered. In remembering this episode one set up close to the church the statue of the IJzerbroekwerker (: Worker of the iron marsh).

Mill

Formerly, Sint Hubert had two corn mills with wind. The Korenaar , corn-grinding, built in 1880 in the center of the village, was transferred into 1951 towards the west from the Netherlands and was rebuilt. The Heimolen , mill of the moor , built in 1877 in the moor with 1 km in the west of the village. It was built by the miller of the Hamse molen with Wanroy with the assistance of the priest of Altforst. For this mill, one used the remainders of an older mill, which was with the locality Molengat , Trou of the mill, halfway between Sint Hubert and Mill. The mill is just on the edge of the Peelhorst. It is a mill with hillock, the hillock of ground around the ground floor makes it possible to the miller to maintain the wings.

Russian Orthodoxe monastery

For several years a small monastery of Russian the Orthodoxe church has been installed in an old farm with Sint Hubert. This monastery of the Élie prophet and the parish of the same name are under the jurisdiction of the archbishop's palace of Paris and Western Europe, Rue Daru in Paris. In the monastery a small Russian Orthodoxe church is, richly decorated. The church is accessible to the visitors.
