Singh is an Indian family name extremely widespread.
Resulting from the Sanskrit sinha , the word singh wants to say " lion". One finds it for example in the name of the city-state of Singapore, " the City ( pure ) of Lion"
In India and in the Indian communities, it is a patronym very running to the people resulting from the caste from the Râjput S (caste of the warriors or nobility of the the Rajasthan) and to the Sikhs.
