History
Beginnings
Singapore Airlines was firstly incorporated in Malayan Airways Limited (BADLY) since 1937, but it is in 1947, on April 2nd, that the company carried out its first vol. the flight left Singapore for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and was carried out by a Airspeed Consul, a piston twin-engine aircraft. It followed, as of on May 1st, of weekly scheduled flights with the same aircraft bound for Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh and Penang in Malaysia; the company continued its growth and its expansion during the end of the year 1940 and the years 1950. During the first twenty years of its existence, Malayan Airways had acquired the Douglas DC-4 Skymaster, the Vickers Viscount, the Lockheed Constellation, the Bristol Brittania, the Comet IV and finally the Fokker F27.September 16th, 1963, the New federation of Malaysia was born, Singapore formed integral part of this Federation, and the company was famous Malaysian Airways Limited. However, Singapore having disagreements with Kuala Lumpur on the level of the Ideology, the City-state became independent in 1965, and the company was once again re-elected as a Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA). The following year, followed a rapid expansion of the destinations and fleet which was seen equipped with the first Boeing acquired by the company, a Boeing 707. Singapore was seen in addition offering new buildings for the seat of the company, and the latter acquired thereafter several Boeing 737.
Singapore Airlines
MSA ceased however its activities in 1972 when political conflicts appeared between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, and it resulted two distinct companies from them: Malaysia Airline System (FARMHOUSE) and Singapore Airlines, which was seen keeping all the Boeings 707 and 737, lines in departure of Singapore as well as the buildings of the seat of the company located in this same city. The female personnel of cabin continued to wear the dress Sarong kebaya, drawn by the French dressmaker Pierre Balmain, and introduced since 1968. It is this dress which was transformed into icon of the company and the stewardesses are internationally recognized like representing “Singapore Girl”Singapore Airlines then accelerated its growth by obtaining several Boeing 747.
