Sinaloa

Sinaloa is a federal State Mexico located on the coast of the Golfe of California (Pacific Ocean). Surrounded by the States of Sonora, of Chihuahua, Durango and Nayarit, it occupies a surface of 58.092 km ². With 2.536.844 inhabitants, Sinaloa is the State more populated the North-West of Mexico.

It is divided into 18 municipalities (North in the South): Choice, El Fuerte, Ahome, Sinaloa, Guasave, Mocorito, El Salvador Alvarado, Angostura, Navolato, Culiacán, Cosalá, Elota, San Ignacio, Mazatlán, Concordia and Escuinapa. Its capital is Culiacán of Rosales (745 000 inhabitants). Principal cities (ordinates by size): Mazatlán, Los Mochis, Guasave, Guamúchil, El Fuerte, Navolato and Angostura.

Climate

The Climat is hot and semi arid in the plains, with average temperatures going from 24 to 25 degrees. Annual precipitations are of 600 mm, going up to 1.400 mm in the south of the state.

Economy

Agriculture

Agriculture is the backbone of the economy of the state with most of its sectors cultivated under the irrigation. The wide area network of irrigation has the potential for the future expansion. The state is a leader in the production of rice and vegetables and second corn and bean. The major part of the agriculture of the state is located in the municipalities of Culiacan, Navolato, Angostura, EL Fuerte and Ahome.

Fish

Fishing is the activity second of Sinaloa. The state holds the first place with a national level in terms of value of production, and the third place in terms of volumes of fish of the seafood. There is a great potential to develop aquiculture, particularly production of shrimp.

Industry

There is industry in all the state; industrial parks can be found in several real industrial sectors, corridors and allotments. The industrial activity of Sinaloa is related on the agricultural production and the fishing industry, and consists mainly of factories of setting out of box and deep-frozen food packing.

Infrastructure

With its three international airports (Culiacán, Mazatlán and Los Mochis), the network of roads which connects it to the border of the United States, and the two principal seaports of Mazatlán and Topolobampo, Sinaloa is well communicated with the remainder of the country and the world.
